“Rights” are things every child should have or be able to do. All children have the same rights. These rights are listed in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Almost every country has agreed to these rights.
- You have the right to be protected from harm so you can grow and reach your full potential (Articles 4, malady 5, 11, 19, 32 and 36).
- You have the right to participate, share your opinion or concerns and have an adult listen (Articles 12 and 13).
- You have the right to the basic needs for survival which means health care, safe water to drink, healthy food, a clean and safe environment, and information to help you stay well (Article 24).
- You have the right to a quality education (Articles 28 and 29).
As you get older, you will have more responsibility to make choices and enforce your rights.
If you or someone you know is having their rights abused in any way, then the most important thing to do is talk to someone about it.
